Most of us who have self-hosted blogs prefer to spend considerable amount of time designing the look and feel of the website. That, in my opinion, is the first and foremost step in choosing the right template to suit our blog theme. The second step is to conceptualize and design a logo for the blog, strongly reflecting upon the theme of the blog content. This is where most of us get stuck. Most of the time, professional logo design is not a good option for new blogs as it may cost a fortune. Having said that, if you a lay-user, designing a logo from GIMP or Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop, is not always an easy task – time consuming if one lacks creativity and dexterity in using the tools of the aforementioned photo applications.
So, what do these limitations present us with? Well, we end up searching for a logo maker, prefixed with the keyword FREE, on Google, Yahoo, etc.
Designing the logo for this site (Ubiquitense) was easy as I had a trial version of JASC Paint Shop Pro. I tried to keep the design fairly simple, and ended up designing the logo (see top left of this page) with a little bit of imagination and creativity. The end result – spent $0 on logo design!!
Anyways, as I mentioned earlier, the Paint Shop Pro trial ended, and I had to discard the software – can’t afford it yet. When I started a new blog What’s Happening – Broadcast right now!, I really missed the Paint Shop Pro software. Adding to it, even though I have Linux on my home desktop, I have ZERO knowledge on GIMP – so no use for me on designing the logo.
Finally, resorted to the good old way of acquiring information – Google for free online logo maker, and ended up trying out Logo Ease. Even though they have a small category-specific icon/logo-base, one can choose from the existing list and customize them with the blog name and caption – all in a jiffy! Trust me, in a JIFFY!!
It took me just about 14 minutes to conceptualize and design this (see below) simple logo for my new blog.
One just needs to register with Logo Ease to save and/or download the logos that you create. A pretty good online logo creator – if you have a dash of imagination and creativity!
