You might be calling me names on hearing this question. It’s a natural reaction of any music lover/Rahman fan towards such a ridiculous question. Rahman deserves an accolade much greater than the Oscars. I don’t know why many think that Oscar is THE greatest award an artist can get in their lifetime.
Think again..
If the Oscar jury has considered Rahman’s music for Slumdog Millionaire (SDM) , and not for Lagaan, Rang De Basanti (RDB) and Water – think again! In my opinion, Rahman’s music for Lagaan/RDB/Water is light years ahead of SDM. What say you? Is it that the Oscar/BAFTA/Golden Globe juries considered Rahman’s music since it’s a movie directed by a Western director FOR the Western audience? Not sure how this whole thing works, but I think that something is funny.
A R Rahman is an out-of-the-box music director, with very high levels of creativity, that deserves an accolade more than that of the Oscars or BAFTA. Having said that, I’m very happy for Rahman for taking Indian music to such great heights. Also, I’m happy that at least now Rahman is getting the much deserved international recognition – due since 1991!
One would have seen the Jai Ho influence in the US.. On 22 February, we will see the influence of Jai Ho on audiophiles worldwide.
Jai ho Rahman!

Ya dude you take the point.
Even though the Oscars are something that cant be achieved all the time, it is not the end…
Good music require no award for recognition
Exactly my point… got a lot of flak for expressing such an opinion too! Read my blog http://rashreivyas.wordpress.com
Music is Roja-Rehman’s superb!! Probably the style was the hit.
I think you are probably right coz I listened to Jai Ho for the first time after AR got his oscar and was kind of little shocked as i had expected more than that (maybe I was comparing it with his other better ones). Or maybe the jury thought ‘Oh my, here comes this guy again with a new movie, pls give him one of those statues, sorry oscars and send him back’
