Some time ago, I published a great article by Saroj on the Western World’s perspective on homosexuality. Well, from today, India is open to accepting homosexuality – legally! This is great news for those that cherish same-sex relationships/marriages, especially in the supposedly conservative Indian society.
All is well! However, in my opinion, the problem is that the society is still not mentally prepared to welcome gays and lesbians, and bisexuals. Secondly, I have a vague feeling that men and women will have a tough time in crowded places. Why? I leave it to your imagination. So far, women were the target for nudging and pushing by men in crowded places. And now, with this extra legal-freedom, I guess men will have to cope up with such things too!
What say you?

It will be interesting to observe how this change will impact society and adolescents in particular. When a certain behaviour gets wide acceptance, its incidence is also bound to increase as it will be considered a ‘trend’. Just as previous generations found it hard to accept inter caste/religious marriages, it is to be seen how we will react to same sex relationships among our children in years to come.
Whatever be the law, it’s meant to be broken! There might be increased instances of adam-teasing and MALE-molestation
. Now, men will know how it feels to be abused by another man
we are speaking about the LGBT community…not only gays..adam-teasing et cetera in my opinion is caricaturing their dignity instead of the upliftment(whic the Delhi HC verdict intended to).Is India ready accept is not a question at all..the question should be ‘do i accept?’..MOreover the law says CONSENSUAL PRIVATE same sex is legal…molesting people of gender whatsoever is still a crime.as far as children’s behaviour is considered I think the concept of sexual relationships itself is not hidden from kids of this generation thanks to free acsess to porn(whic is also, illegal mind you)via internet..so the conclusion is whether legalizing or not children(some at least)spoil because of reasons immense!(parents, pals, school, weak conscience et cetera)
We just need to wait and see the implications of this on our society. As always, there are two sides to a coin – and each side, be it good or bad, is always justifiable by the people concerned. Hmm..let’s see!
