This is how you market a product – Firefox 3.5

Well, it’s been a while since I came across a software marketing campaign/product introduction exercise that was interesting, crystal clear, and most importantly, to the point. Very few software vendors are good at marketing their products – be it target or generic audience.

When you introduce a product, an end-user / audience looks for the following:

1. Name of the product and it’s basic functionality (e.g. browser, editor, IDE, etc)
2. How different it is from other similar products in the market?
3. What are the new features in this version, when compared to the previous?
4. What’s in it FOR ME?
5. How fast the program is gonna load?
6. CPU load, memory footprint, etc for heavier applications
7. What are the operating systems and languages that are supported?
8. Fun components, if any
9. Subtle highlighting of unique features, more than once
10. Value-adds, free plugins, etc to improve the functionality of the product
