I was a little bored of hearing the term social networking. I googled for social networking, and it threw up 69 million results. The first result was a Wikipedia entry on social networking websites, and the second one was our beloved Facebook. Suddenly, I was having an urge to know the number of visitors to a couple of the social networking websites. And so, the right place to get some realistic numbers is Compete.
Here are some screen-shots of the famous social networking websites’ analytics – Facebook, Twitter and Orkut
By unique visitors
Oh boy! Facebook has clocked a whopping 122.6 million unique visitors in July, whereas Orkut is just close to half-a-million? I think Twitter is gaining momentum with 23.2 million unique visitors and an amazing year-over-year (YoY) 949.6% growth rate. Wow!
By visits
Take a look at the visits figures for these social networking services. I need a better word than whopping, if I had to use it for the numbers being displayed for Facebook. Well, Twitter is gaining momentum, and Orkut is on running flat tyres. Click here to see the exact numbers for these websites.
What makes Facebook so very special to hit such high numbers? Is this because of the hundreds of Facebook applications? I think Facebook is like an elite community, when compared to Orkut (oh, my experience!).
On a side note, now I know why Facebook is always slow loading!

Didn’t use FB for a long time as I was nervous
. It was too hi-tech for an ancient like me. But now, with all my frnds being on FB I’ve jumped in too. However it is addictive and now its Twitter for me. These two tabs are always open thoguh my twitter account reads more like a soliloquy. Using twitter to follow some big names I like. Also some not so big like urs.
It’s no surprise FB is getting such huge numbers. Zuckerberg’s social networking model didn’t just stop with saying hello and sharing things…the apps did the rest of the trick! Well, my favorite is FB too, followed by twitter
Ubi, why didn’t you have a check box for multiple selections?
