After Dilli 6, I’ve been waiting for quite some time to get hold of Rahman’s score in the yet to be released hindi movie Blue. You know the usual Rahman phenomenon – the more you listen to the song, the more it grows on you. It’s like an acquired taste, yet so unique in style. However, Blue doesn’t reflect much of Rahman’s typical musical prowess’ – it disappoints, especially if you were expecting something in line with Dilli 6. All of the songs in Dilli 6 offered something new and refreshing – from Arabic to Pop to Reggae, Hindustani, Carnatic, Mogul, and every other genre on earth.
Unfortunately, Blue is a little uncharacteristic of Rahman. May be, it depends on the director and his likings?
Below are the ratings that I would give for the songs:
Aaj dil gustakh hai – Sukhwinder Singh and Shreya Ghoshal. 3.5/5
Chiggy Wiggy – Kylie Minogue and Sonu Nigam. 3.2/5
Fiqrana – Vijay Prakash and Shreya Ghoshal. 3.7/5
Blue theme – Blaaze, Raqueeb Alam and others. 2.5/5
Yaar Mila tha – Udith Narayan & Madhushree. 3.4/5
Rehnuma – Sonu Nigam & Shreya Ghoshal. 3.9/5
Bhoola tujhe – Rashid Ali. 3.9/5
Overall rating - 3.5/5
Don’t ask me how I arrived at the ratings above. It’s nothing complicated. Just go buy yourself a copy of the album, and listen to it at least four times. You’ll start liking the songs, but will feel that Rahman’s typical musical experiments are missing.

Yes, the Rahman touch is missing in Blue.
With blue, that is.
I am utterly disappointed too.
I always think that his music is slow poison!!!!
Oh come on man!the them song deserves at least 4…look at the mixing..awesome,,chiggy wiggy minus sonu nigam is good …yu are right this album doesnt give much to the ARR classic library!
PS:my favorite in order of liking
THEME(the female voices are awesome..)
Fiqrana(vijay rocks..)
yaar mila de(madhurshree is awesome..kabhi neem neem kabhi shehad in the tru sense of words)
chiggy wiggy(as i said..sonu should have keot out..:P )
Well, it’s subjective. I loved the Dilli 6 theme, and ’s a little disappointed with the Blue theme. Yep, I concur with you, Chiggy Wiggy without Sonu would’ve been good.
