I once visited my friend’s house – an apartment built by one of the most famous builders in South India. It was 7 years old then, and I could see a lot of cracks running along the walls, the bathroom ceiling marked with seepage water-marks, not-so-good wall plastering, and..phew…a lot of other woes. Well, this is not an exceptional case; nowadays, most owners of flats complain of such things. Considering the real estate prices in South India, these builders ought to be giving the best in terms of quality and architecture. But the reality in realty is disgusting – just plain greed and lack of architects and workers with passion.
There was once a period, until the British, when Indian architecture was a pinnacle of quality and beauty.
Most of them still stand, majestically, laughing at our current state of quality-innovation-deprived society that is built on money & greed, and nothing else. What say you?

you know what eventhough madurai has the larger temple i so much wish to visit Tanjavur! thanks to the history lessons! the elephants carrying stones to the top is still imprinted in my mind..(well not the image..the text in book
)
This Tanjavur temple is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s clean, and has an aesthetic appeal ‘coz I couldn’t find beggars inside the temple pestering you for alms. Our builders today, with all the modern engineering, couldn’t build a longer lasting building. This temple is now more than 1000 years old…still standing tall. I get goosebumps when I visit such historic places. Hampi is next in my list
