What ‘m gonna write about is something that is not new to IT professionals who work in international class, aesthetically styled glass-clad buildings. Have you ever wondered why the roads and off-roads around your buildings are eternally in bad shape, while the so called IT boom showers money on the government (both from the company and from tax-payers like us!)?
When I was in Bengaluru, on my way to the International Technology Park (ITPL), I kept cursing the government for not laying proper roads and improving the infrastructure. It was all dust, smoke and pollution around the aesthetically designed ITPL buildings. Bad roads are not restricted to areas in and around ITPL, but also around most of the other IT parks.
The above is the picture of the road behind Olympia Technology Park (OTP) in Guindy, Chennai. Well, the road is in a battered condition, and everyday thousands of employees of the many companies housed inside OTP use the road. OK, these people may not complain against the authorities concerned as they don’t live in that area, or they think that it’s such a small stretch “what do I care?”.
Can’t some authorities from those MNCs inside the complex come forward and set it right? Eh, too busy! Just have a look at the infrastructure in China, simply mind blowing. When they can do wonders, still being a developing country, why can’t we lay proper roads and instill some faith in us that we are of course living in a civilized society governed by civilized people?
Time will tell, and by the time that ‘time’ comes, the world would’ve ceased to exist – I guess!

Not necessarily Naren. The more industry booms, the greater the demand for infrastructure. Its a vicious circle…….absolutely no end…..
What we ask for is the most basic of all demands…good roads!!
