Solar neck strap for your camera – Charge and shoot
This is a wearable solar neck strap, designed by Weng Jie, that can power your camera on the move. Well, you don’t have to worry about the batteries dying on you at the crucial moment, do you? However, make sure you’re in a sunny landscape, and not in some godforsaken cave North of Europe. Anyways, [...]
Telecommuting and carbon emissions – it’s not our cup of tea!
I can save around 30,000 INR a year, or 2,500 INR a month if I telecommute. I can create a profit of at least 5,000 INR a year if I invest the savings on some infrastructure mutual fund. I can prevent 0.9 metric tons of CO2 (carbon dioxide) from polluting the air. The above is [...]
Gooseberry pictures – @ home
Come December, kids and grown up locals jump the walls of our little house just to gather some gooseberries (nellikai or amla or Phyllanthus emblica), without permission (ain’t there a single word starting with ‘S’?), from the garden. Yes, India is very much a democratic country, and these locals have every right to cut trees [...]
Sunset on the Bavarian Alps – A moment to remember..
This is the thousandth time ‘m staring at this pic. I took this pic from aboard an Alpen rail, on my way back from the fairytale-ish Neuschwanstein castle. Whenever I look at the picture, I get reminded of those good days in Germany, the Bavarian alps, the snow, and the petty craving for the ever-elusive [...]
ECO-SAFE: Green viral marketing for your blogs and websites
Google Mail is celebrating its fifth birthday. Did you know how Google Mail (or Gmail) was made popular when they started in 2004? Remember, there was NO ‘create an account‘ option available at that time! Users signed up only via invitations! I remember when I got an invitation to sign up for a Gmail account [...]
Go green – Electrify the dance floor!
Previously, I’ve written a couple of articles on going green, and how the environmentalists and industrialists worldwide are going crazy about inventing new techniques to contain global warming.
Now, it looks like going Green has been catching up with night clubs all over the world, where they can generate quite a lot of power from those electrifying teenage/middle-aged dancers thumping their feet, consciously or unconsciously, on the dance floor. This is what I call cool technology! The technology behind this may sound very simple, yet it appears to be powerful enough to generate about 60% (not sure if it is theoretical or practical) of the night club’s electricity.
