Google India’s Internet bus – on its way creating buzz

Google India’s Internet bus – on its way creating buzz

By Naren Ubi on February 4, 2009

In one of my earlier posts I was talking about the paperless receits initiative from TransactionTree. I was also wondering how and when this concept will reach the 1,018,057,389 Internet users. Well, on the flip side, I never thought about the remaining 5-billion people who do not have access to the Internet! Google India just [...]

Google Friend Connect setup steps

Google Friend Connect – Socialize your site with four interesting gadgets!

By Naren Ubi on December 9, 2008

When Yahoo acquired MyBlogLog last year, I was wondering if Google would acquire a similar company to add some cool Web 2.0-social networking gadgets to its portfolio. Finally, Google has come up with its newest socializing service called Google Friend Connect, that may enable a website to provide ‘social features’, and to increase its traffic (theoretically or practically!) by attracting more visitors.

The set up is fairly simple, and as a first step, we just need to sign-in using your Google ID, and click on ‘set up a new site’. The next step requires you to upload two html files to the root folder of your website, and obviously you have to use an FTP client like FileZilla or CuteFTP.

Once uploaded, the subsequent steps verify and take you to the ‘Member Gadgets’ page where you specify the dimensions, generate code and add the same to your website’s sidebar, or wherever you want that to be displayed.

Once done, the widget looks like this..

Yahoo Glue – A bird’s eye view of the search results

By Naren Ubi on November 22, 2008

When new search engines come with new technologies and innovations, the existing search engine companies always find ways to stay on top via their new ideas. The newest search engines like Cuil and Nuemo have their own unique selling propositions like categorized search, integrated video search, suggestive search, and so on.

I stumbled upon Yahoo Glue (still in beta) that aims to provide a universal search feature by listing Wikipedia pages, videos, stock quotes, related headlines, blogs, images and..

Interesting and proactive search engine – Nuemo

By Naren Ubi on November 3, 2008

Thanks to SL, who introduced me to this interesting search engine called Nuemo. Spinlet Oy, a Finnish company, is the brain behind this search engine technology, yet if you visit their home page, you don’t find Nuemo – Weird! Also, there is hardly any information about the company, its management team, detailed service offerings and so on. No wonder Nuemo doesn’t show up on Google or Cuil search engines. I believe that they have excluded themselves from being indexed by popular search engines – correct me if ‘m wrong!
