Sherlock Holmes – movie review

Sherlock Holmes – movie review

By Naren Ubi on April 7, 2010

If you are looking for an authentic adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes (2009), then you will be disappointed. The lead character, along with the legendary Dr. Watson, is portrayed in a typical Hollywoodish style. However, the strong British accent keeps you reminding that the movie is about a British detective and all [...]

Quick Gun Murugan – better wait for the premiere on TV

Quick Gun Murugan – better wait for the premiere on TV

By Naren Ubi on September 13, 2009

Is it worth spending 300 bucks, and watching it on the big screen? This was the first question that I asked my friends that went to watch this movie – huh, those first-day-first-show freaks. All of them replied in affirmative. I wanted to be doubly sure as I was a little uneasy about watching this [...]

10 lovable, film and music company logos

By Naren Ubi on July 16, 2009

I don’t know why, but ‘m suddenly possessed by this logo-mania since yesterday. I’ve been ogling and drooling at a lot of logo designs, and the subtle meanings they are able to convey. Wish I had some Adobe Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro skills; I would’ve been minting money through logo design. Not many such [...]

By Naren Ubi on November 25, 2008

Listening to Jason Mraz’s lilts after a long long time (rating 4/5). Yesterday, I was nostalgic with Boney M’s evergreen tracks (rating 4.5/5) – Rasputin, Daddy Cool and Ma Baker. Probably, I may listen to Abba’s Super Trouper and Winner Takes It All (rating 5/5), tomorrow

Yuvraaj Album – awesome score by A R Rahman. I’m still humming the soul stirring Manmohini Morey, and the peppy Shano Shano dance number!

Wall-E and Eva

WALL-E: Movie review

By Naren Ubi on September 13, 2008

Well, what should I say? I’ve been rather late in writing a review for a movie that was released about 3 weeks ago. Anyways, nothing has been lost yet, and there are still quite a few million people out there waiting to watch this animation masterpiece. Wall-E is a typical love story, where one can draw parallels with the Indian cinema (or even Titanic!). So, the story is simple. Imagine an Indian cinema where a poor guy falls in love with a rich girl who has to follow a directive, and eventually the girl getting attracted to this poor guy in rags.
