How many of you bloggers have struggled with the primitive MS Paint or Microsoft Office Picture Manager to crop, collage, resize, colorize the pictures, to suit the needs of your blog page/photoblog’s dimensions? Well, then I was one among you..
Of course, there are people out there that use pirated and cracked versions of Adobe Photoshop or JASC Paint Shop Pro, and this post is only for those that don’t or can’t install unlicensed pirated copies of software on their computers.
So, I use PhotoScape!
PhotoScape is absolutely FREE, and does a very good job of pro-like photo editing. It also has an integrated screen capture facility, which opens the captured picture automatically in it’s editor. What else can one ask for outta FREE software?
There are lots of other free image editing programs, and ‘m not even turning my head in that direction. Some of the features of PhotoScape are:
- Image Viewer – Full screen, super fast. No annoying transition effects.
- Image Editor – One of the best editors providing a very accurate ‘auto correct’ feature! The best part here is while you save as JPG, you can choose the optimal quality and the file size for online image usage!!
- Batch Editor
- Page – insert multiple photos in a page like layout. Multiple layouts available!
- Combine – combine multiple pictures, horizontally or vertically – see this post for example.. combined BMW and Benz pics in less than 30 seconds!
- AniGIF – create animated GIF images. Just drop your photos into the editor!
- Splitter – need I explain this?
- Screen Capture – lets you capture full screen, window or a region – see these posts for Region capture..
- Color Picker
- Raw Converter – useful if your digital camera can output images in RAW (uncompressed) format. Convert to JPG format..
- Rename – Rename multiple files. Old and new names are displayed side-by-side
Overall rating of PhotoScape: 4.9999999999/5!
So, what FREE photo editor do you use? Let me know if you are using something better than PhotoScape!

Wow! All these days I’ve been using Irfan View and MSPaint. Thanks for the tip..downloading PhotoScape rightaway!!
Well, I’ve tried this PhotoScape, and always liked it for its super-fast and no-nonsense performance. However, I’ve stopped using it after I purchased ACDSee
This is news. Dint know this before. Thought GIMP was the only s/w that could rival photoshop.
